I was woken up at 5:45 this morning by a text from a friend informing me of Jack Layton’s death…pretty sad news to wake up to.  Layton has been a fixture in Canadian politics since I knew what Canadian politics were.  I may have chosen to vote Green in the last election, but that doesn’t mean a lot of what he had to say didn’t resonate with me, and I know I speak for many in my generation when I say he was passionate, engaging and optimistic in a way few other politicians we’ve encountered thus far may ever be.  R.I.P Jack Layton, you did good work. “Courage my friends, ‘tis never too late to build a better world.” - Tommy Douglas
